Spring Fever

Spring is here again.
Flowers soon spring from the ground,
And birds come around.

So goes my lame attempt at poetry.  I wish the weather would take note of the fact that spring has indeed officially arrived.  And since when did April showers come in March?  And if these aren’t the April showers, we’d better start building an ark!  Seriously.  We haven’t dried out from the last rain storms and the melted snow, and rain is pitter pattering on the window panes again.

However, I didn’t write to lament the cold rainy weather.  Rather, I wanted to celebrate one of my favorite spring happenings…the arrival of the hummingbirds!  We just get the ruby-throated type here, but they’re a joy to see.  I keep track of their arrival via The Hummingbird Migration Map.  Normally they show up here in Mid-April (crossing the mountains takes time…we live in a valley).  If you are curious when they might come to you, you can check the maps from previous years.

Here’s a hummer at the salvia I planted one year.
